How Simply Sunni Can Help Your Business Bounce Back After Hurricanes Helene and Milton

What a big bunch of craziness the last few weeks have been for us on the Gulf Coast. If you’re like us, you are just trying to get back to normal after hurricanes Helene and Milton – I call it my “hurricane hangover.” Honestly, I feel like it has been harder than normal to break myself out of the hurricane and recovery process fog.

Needless to say, I totally get it. These storms didn’t just pause our lives—they shook them up, knocked out power, halted business, and left us feeling a mix of fear, panic, and exhaustion. From frantically preparing to clean up piles of debris, it’s been an emotional rollercoaster for everyone.

As a business owner myself, I felt the gut punch of seeing my carefully planned week thrown into chaos. No power, no Wi-Fi, and a never-ending list of to-dos that had to wait. And while my place in Tampa was spared the worst of it, my heart aches for the communities hit harder. We’re praying for everyone who lost so much, and if that’s you, know you’re not alone. We’re standing with you.

But now, as we step back into our routines, there’s a reality we must face: Business doesn’t wait. Customers still need to hear from you, marketing still needs to happen, and social media doesn’t pause for clean-up days. If your business is feeling the weight of getting back on track, you’re not alone in that either.

Feeling Overwhelmed After Hurricane Milton? You’re Not Alone

Let’s be real for a moment. Navigating the storm’s devastation isn’t just about business; it’s about dealing with all the emotions that come with it. And we had Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton back-to-back.

I felt the fear when the winds picked up, the panic when I realized we had no power, and the exhaustion that hit after hours of cleaning up.

I know you’ve probably felt the same. It’s okay to feel all of that. But it’s also okay to ask for help.

Helpful Disclaimers for Your Small Businesses Disaster Response

As I was looking into how the Simply Sunni team could help get businesses back to whatever state of operation they can, I came across an article by Florida State University. That article is here if you want to read it in full.

Tropical Storms & Hurricanes: What to do After

What I noticed was the wording for the reopening during the recovery process. For example:

“Some priority functions and services may be restored before others.

It is possible that some aspects of campus life may not reopen or resume at the time that people are allowed back on campus. The University will focus its response and recovery efforts on core-critical facilities and functions.”

That made me think of all the small business in the Tampa Bay area and on the Gulf Coast attempting to re-open while still in the process. And honestly, we will be in recovery for a long time to come. So I thought I would write some disclaimers for all my readers. Please feel free to cut and paste, reword, and make these specific to your company.

12 Small Business Reopening Disclaimers:

  1. Prioritized Service Restoration:
“Please note that we are prioritizing essential services to resume operations. While some core functions may be restored, non-critical services may experience temporary delays as we work through the recovery process. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.”
