A Story of Faith, Family, and Starting Something New

Sprinkle It With Sunshine is the personal story of how faith, family, creativity, and fierce determination helped me build Simply Sunni. Starting something new changed me in ways I never expected.

I didn’t start this journey with all the answers, endless confidence, or a perfect plan. I started with a willingness to learn, a hope to create something meaningful, and faith that God could use the gifts and experiences already in my life.

In this book, I share the joys, doubts, lessons, mistakes, and surprises that shaped my journey from freelance writer to business owner, author, course creator, and blogging teacher. I also talk openly about imposter syndrome, learning, motherhood, marriage, personal growth, and finding the courage to keep going.

This isn’t a story about overnight success or having it all figured out. It’s a reminder that you can start again, learn new things, and chase a meaningful dream at any stage of life.

If you’ve ever wondered if it’s too late to start something new, Sprinkle It With Sunshine is for you.

Why I Wrote Sprinkle It With Sunshine

When I started Simply Sunni, I never thought the journey would turn into a book. My focus was on learning, creating, helping others, and just taking one step at a time.

What began with freelance writing continued to grow and change. Along the way, I learned about business, creativity, confidence, course creation, and the importance of continuing to learn. I also learned that growth is rarely a straight line. There were exciting victories, difficult lessons, moments of doubt, and plenty of times when I had to choose faith over fear.

I wrote Sprinkle It With Sunshine: How Faith, Family, and Fierce Determination Built My Company to share the real story behind Simply Sunni. It’s about the people who cheered me on, the experiences that shaped me, and the lessons I learned while building something that matters.

Most of all, I wanted this book to encourage anyone who’s just starting something new. Maybe you’re launching a blog, building a business, learning a new skill, going back to an old dream, or just trying to figure out your next step.

You don’t have to know every step before you start. Sometimes, all you need is enough faith and courage to take that first step.

What You Will Find Inside the Book

Sprinkle It With Sunshine shares the personal experiences, family influences, faith, and lessons that have shaped both my life and Simply Sunni.

In 20 short chapters, I talk about my childhood, my journey from Sunni Carr to Sunni Baerwalde, and the experiences that led me to writing and entrepreneurship. I also share how Simply Sunni grew and changed, and what I learned while building a creative business.

In this book, you’ll find stories about:
  • Faith and the role it has played in my journey
  • Family, marriage, motherhood, and the people who encouraged me
  • Building and evolving Simply Sunni
  • Learning new skills and continuing to grow
  • Facing imposter syndrome and developing confidence
  • Creating courses and resources from what I learned
  • Finding beauty and possibility in ordinary moments
  • Lessons gathered through more than 30 years of life and work experience

The book also has Points of Light and Time of Reflection sections to help you pause, reflect on your own journey, and think about your next steps.

My story might not be the same as yours, but feelings like uncertainty, hope, determination, and the wish to create something meaningful are things many of us share.

Who Is Sprinkle It With Sunshine For?

I wrote this book for anyone who feels drawn to try something new but isn’t quite sure where to start.

This book may speak most to women who are entering a new season of life. Maybe your children are grown, your daily routines are shifting, or you finally have space to revisit dreams and ideas you once set aside. You might feel excited about what’s ahead and a bit uncertain, too.

Sprinkle It With Sunshine is for you if you are:
  • Starting a blog, business, creative project, or new career
  • Returning to a dream you once set aside
  • Learning something new later in life
  • Struggling with self-doubt or imposter syndrome
  • Looking for faith-filled encouragement
  • Trying to build confidence one step at a time
  • Wondering whether your experience could help someone else
  • Ready to create something meaningful in your next chapter

This book isn’t a quick guide to instant success. Instead, it’s my personal story, full of encouragement, reflection, and lessons I’ve learned along the way.

I hope you’ll recognize parts of your own journey in mine and remember that starting small matters. You don’t have to change who you are before you begin. You can start with what you know, who you are, and what God has already given you.

What Does “Sprinkle It With Sunshine” Mean?

“Sprinkle it with Sunshine” has become much more than a phrase to me. It is a way of looking at life, creativity, work, and the people around us.

Okay, real talk: I realize it is a bit of a corny title. But it is also the way I try to live every day. And after all, when your name is Sunni, and you live in the Sunshine State – I mean, come on! I had to use it!

For me, it’s about noticing beauty in everyday moments. It’s about encouraging others when they need it, adding warmth to our work, and sharing a bit of light whenever we can.

Sunshine isn’t about acting like everything is perfect. Life has disappointments, uncertainty, tough times, and plans that don’t always work out.

Sprinkling sunshine on those moments means looking for hope, keeping faith, and believing that something good can still come from where we are.

This idea is at the heart of Simply Sunni. Whether I’m writing, helping new bloggers, creating a course, sharing resources, or encouraging someone starting over, I want people to see the possibilities they already have inside.

You might not be able to change every situation, but you can choose what you bring to it. Sometimes, a bit of faith, kindness, creativity, and sunshine can make all the difference.
Sprinkle It With Sunshine book with Michelle Cunningham’s quote calling it a gift full of wisdom, stories, and practical tips that will change your life.

A Foreword From Michelle Cunningham

I feel truly honored that Michelle Cunningham wrote the foreword for Sprinkle It With Sunshine.

Michelle is an international bestselling author who knows what it takes to turn an idea into something real, keep learning along the way, and inspire other women to believe in themselves. Having her words introduce this personal book made publishing it even more special for me.

Her foreword introduces a story about faith, growth, determination, and the courage to follow your gifts wherever they may lead.
