I’ll take you behind the scenes of this beloved family project and share how it all began with a little help from my talented daughter. Together, we turned a cherished family tradition into a gift not just for our grandkids but for young readers all around the world.

Our Children’s Book Series About Adventures with Grandparents
The Gigi Pop series is all about magical adventures that two lucky grandparents, Gigi and Pop, get to have with their three grandchildren. These stories are inspired by real-life moments, offering young readers an imaginative yet familiar experience that celebrates family life, fun, and the joy of being together.

The Series Inspiration
So, how did this book series come to life?
Well, it all started with love. As a writer and grandmother, I’ve always found inspiration in the special moments I share with my family, and when it came to my three grandkids, I was completely smitten!
Not only did I love spending time with them, but I also adored the adventures we had together, big and small. I wanted to capture those magical memories in a way that could be shared and cherished for years to come.
Then there’s my daughter. She’s an amazing artist, a photographer, and an illustrator—basically, the perfect partner for this project. Her passion for creating art for her loved ones, from family photo sessions to whimsical illustrations, made her the ideal person to bring these stories to life. It didn’t take long for her to say yes to collaborating on this project, and the lakehouse story was born!
Adventures with GigiPop: Let’s Go to the Lakehouse
The first book in our series is called Let’s Go to the Lakehouse, and it’s a playful, interactive story that’s perfect for even the youngest grandchild to enjoy. At the time, we had two grandkids—Easton, age 5, and Belle, age 2—and our goal was to create a simple yet engaging book that would captivate their attention.
The story begins with Gigi and Pop announcing their trip to the lakehouse, which sets the stage for a series of fun and familiar events. Gigi starts a pattern by asking the kids, “What does the lake have?” and the children respond, “The lake has water.” The pattern continues as the kids share what they love most about the lake—like building sandcastles, spotting deer, and enjoying warm towels after a fun day of swimming.
The final page of the book holds a special place in my heart. It ends with the line, “The lake has Jesus,” accompanied by a beautiful illustration of our little family gathered around a wooden cross, surrounded by the animals of the lakehouse. It’s a peaceful reminder that no matter where we go, Jesus is always with us.
The Start of a Family Children’s Book Series
Creating the lakehouse story was such a joyful experience that we knew we had to continue the adventure. As we brainstormed ideas for more new books, we realized there was so much more to explore—like a weekend at the beach, an afternoon at Hyde Park Village, the Aquarium, or even the zoo!
And then, as if it were meant to be, we got the best news: another grandchild was on the way! So, we set to work on our next book to introduce this new addition to the Gigi Pop crew.
Let’s Watch Baby Grow
In our second book, Let’s Watch Baby Grow, we follow along as Baby grows in Mommy’s tummy, comparing their size week by week to foods that kids can easily relate to, like a sprinkle on a cupcake, chicken nugget, and a large pepperoni pizza!
This book also touches on the emotions that come with becoming an older sibling, especially from the perspective of the big sister who is trying to navigate this big change.
The story captures both the excitement and the real moments that come with welcoming a new family member, reminding children that it’s normal to feel a bit confused or unsure about new additions to the family.
Of course, the book ends with a reminder that Jesus is with us through every change and new beginning.
What’s Next? More Adventures to Come!
We’re so excited about the Gigi Pop series, and we’re already working on our next book—a fun-filled weekend at the beach! This new story is inspired by our real experiences when Gigi and Pop have the kids overnight at their beach condo. The book will be packed with all the fun things we do there, from playing in the sand to flying kites to eating at our favorite local restaurant.
We’re also working on new covers that reflect the colorful, interactive illustrations inside, making this part of a series that you’ll want to keep coming back to!
And, who knows? There might even be a new addition to the Gigi Pop crew…wink, wink.
