I get it. Starting something new, especially something personal like a blog, can be downright scary. When I began, I didn’t have confidence neatly tucked into my back pocket. What I did have was a pull toward writing and a growing understanding that blogging consistency mattered more than feeling fearless. That realization didn’t come all at once, but it changed everything. If you’ve been holding back because you’re waiting to feel ready, let me gently say this: readiness is overrated. Showing up is not.
This blog is for the woman in her second half of life who knows she has something to say but isn’t sure how boldly she needs to say it. It’s for the beginner blogger who’s craving steadiness over speed and meaning over metrics.
Confidence Wasn’t My Starting Point
Blogging was very much a “second half of life” endeavor for me. I didn’t grow up dreaming of being online or building a platform. I jumped in on a wing and a prayer; equal parts obedience, curiosity, and hope. Confidence wasn’t part of the plan. In fact, I often questioned myself. Was my voice strong enough? Did my words matter?
What kept me going wasn’t certainty. It was a quiet decision to keep writing anyway.
That choice, to sit down again even when I felt unsure, is what shaped my voice. Over time, blogging evolved from being about proving something to being about practicing presence.
In my book, Sprinkle It With Sunshine, I wrote about small acts of faithfulness adding up to something meaningful. Blogging has mirrored that truth for me. Each post didn’t need to be perfect; it just needed to be honest.

In Sprinkle It With Sunshine, available on Amazon, I share my journey of faith, growth, and building a fulfilling career after 40, with encouragement for women starting their next chapter.
Why Consistency Matters More Than Confidence
Confidence is emotional. It rises and falls in response to feedback, energy, and the seasons of life. But, consistency is steadier. It’s rooted in commitment, not mood.
Again, consistency is rooted in commitment, not mood.
That mindset shift, from waiting to feel confident to choosing to stay consistent, isn’t just personal experience; it’s backed by behavioral science, too. Stanford behavior scientist BJ Fogg teaches that lasting change doesn’t come from pressure or willpower, but from small actions repeated in a way that feels successful. As he puts it,
“People change best by feeling successful, not by feeling bad.” – Stanford Behavior Design Lab.
That truth resonates deeply with how I’ve built my blogging life. I didn’t gain confidence by pushing harder or critiquing myself into growth. I gained it by showing up in ways that felt doable; writing one post, honoring one commitment, keeping one promise to myself at a time. Consistency created success I could feel, and that feeling is what kept me going. It’s the same principle I return to again and again, both in my writing and in life.
Consistency Builds Trust—With Yourself First
For several years now, my consistency has been solid. I showed up, published regularly, and honored my commitments. That rhythm built trust with my audience, yes, but more importantly, with myself. Let me explain.
If you are on my email list, you already know that this year looks different for Simply Sunni. I’m redefining consistency to better fit my life, my energy, and the season I’m in. Instead of measuring consistency by output alone, I’m measuring it by alignment.
Am I writing with intention, leaving margin, and I honoring rest without guilt? (Still working on that last one!)
Consistency doesn’t have to mean the same to be faithful. It just needs to be true. That shift echoes something I shared in Sprinkle It With Sunshine: growth isn’t always louder or faster; sometimes it’s quieter and wiser. Blogging consistency can evolve as you do.
A Healthier Rhythm for Beginner Bloggers
When I work with beginner bloggers, I often see them burn out before they even begin. They think consistency means pressure to keep up, but my friend, it doesn’t.
Healthy consistency starts by slowing down long enough to set your blogging intentions. When you know why you’re writing, the “how often” becomes less stressful and more natural.
Beginner blogging best practices aren’t about chasing trends or posting constantly. They’re about building a foundation that can hold you for years, not weeks. Learning and applying beginner blogging best practices early helps protect your creativity and your confidence.
Consistency should support your life, not compete with it, for goodness’ sake!
When You Lose Momentum (Because It Happens)
There have been seasons when my words flowed easily and seasons when they didn’t. This past year was one of those stretching seasons. A big move to a new home, two new granddaughters entering our lives, and the weight (and wonder) of the holidays completely reshaped my days. I’ll be honest: I wasn’t as consistent as I usually am. And I’m choosing not to judge myself for that. Life was full in the best ways, even if my schedule felt like it was upside down.
What I’ve learned is that grace matters here, too. My readers understood. They were patient and kind. That generosity still humbles me, and I’m deeply grateful for it.
So, consistency isn’t about never pausing; it’s about returning without shame.
If you step away, that doesn’t erase the work you’ve done. It simply means you’re human.
Oh, and when you wonder if starting again is worth it… it is. Always.
Blogging Consistency Is What Carries You Forward
Looking back, confidence didn’t arrive in a grand moment. It grew quietly through repetition. Through drafts that never saw the light of day. Through posts that mattered deeply to just one reader.
Consistency gave my voice room to mature. Confidence came as a result, not a requirement.
If you take nothing else from this, let it be this: blogging consistency will carry you farther than confidence ever could.
You don’t need to feel brave. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You simply need to begin, and then come back.
Which matters more for you right now, confidence or consistency?
